A Guide for Parents: When to Step In and When to Step Back

Parents want to help — naturally. But too much help can stop children from developing independence.

The goal isn’t to complete assignments for them, but to guide them toward thinking, planning and problem-solving for themselves.

A healthy support balance looks like this:

👀 Observe → 🧠 Ask questions → 🏗 Guide planning → 🎯 Let them try

If they struggle, don’t rescue immediately. Ask:

✨ “What do you think the next step could be?”

✨ “Where in your notes can we find this?”

✨ “Show me how you got to this answer.”

Independence begins when support becomes guidance instead of solution-giving.
